Neighborhood Navigators

Request a Navigator

How it works

You sign up, we send a certified Neighborhood Navigator to you, and they help you build confidence in urban cycling. The time is yours. Want to practice riding to the grocery store from your house? To work? To your kid's school? We can help you get more comfortable doing that. Your Navigator will use their expertise to help you choose low-stress routes, and teach you how to navigate difficult situations on the road.

Why does this program exist?

Bicycle advocacy involves tackling the challenge of safe streets from multiple angles. This program is another angle. While fighting to make the roads safer in the future, we can teach people how to be safer on the roads that we do have. If you didn't grow up riding or don't have friends who do it, it can be hard to get into. It can be a little scary when you're getting started. That's what the Neighborhood Navigators are here for! We want more folks to feel comfortable biking and are doing something about it.

Interested in becoming a Neighborhood Navigator?

Fill out this form below and we'll reach out! To get you signed off as a Neighborhood Navigator requires a little cafe ride around town. That gives us time to chat over a coffee and to see your skills riding in an urban environment. We want to make sure we are getting the right people.

Questions/Answers

Do I need to own a bike?

No, you could rent a Lime bike for your session. We don't currently have any rental bikes, but that could change if enough people reach out. So if you don't have a bike still reach out.

Do you come to my house?

We can meet you at your home, or a place near your house if you'd prefer that.

What kind of credentials do these navigators have?

The navigator volunteers are folks who have been active in the Denver bicycle advocacy scene for a long time. Many of them are car-free. They bike hundreds if not thousands of miles per year, and have done a lot of riding in and around Denver.

Is there a cost to this?

Nope, it is completely free! This program is run by bicycle advocates who are fighting to make the streets safer. We're making progress, but it takes time. In the meantime we want to teach people how to ride on the roads we have.

Can my kid come?

Sure, if you want to bring your kid along that is great! Just please let us know ahead of time.

I don't live in downtown Denver, can I still sign up?

Yes, sign up! We have volunteers all around the metro. We'll do our best to get someone to you. Some of our volunteers will bike pretty far to meet people. It just depends. Sign up and let us try and sort it out.

Can I do my session with a friend?

Sure. Please don't bring 10 friends, that can make it hard on your Navigator. But groups of two are certainly okay.
